Jimmy Choo for H&M

I've been really bad at updating the new work I've been doing...mostly because I like to wait until the finished product and/or photos are released and sometimes that can take months and sometimes I never get to see the photos and I like to accompany posts with images rather then just words...and sometimes I just get side-tracked and forget, ha!

To get back on track... One of the biggest jobs I did recently was modeling for the Jimmy Choo line for H&M. I got to work with 15 other models and met some fun characters. The event took place in the most amazing Hollywood Hills mansion and it was quite star-studded (Paris and Nicky Hilton, Kate Walsh, Stacey Dash, Russel Simmons and Hayden Panetierre were just some of the guests). But the best part by far was the surprise performance by M.I.A.! Click the links below to view press coverage on the launch:

Rock Fashion Week

Last Friday I got to walk for the Pink Dress Collection at Rock Fashion Week. This collection was full of pink dresses from all different designers to support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer organization. I havn't been on a runway in almost a year so it was both exciting and a little nerve wrecking but it was tons of fun. A couple of my friends were in the show and I met some cool new friends as well! I got to wear two beautiful pink dresses, one of which(the one above) was worn by Lo from "The Hills" on the red carpet prior to the show, lol. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and I didn't trip and fall on my face on the runway, ha! Afterwards we had some free wine and watched the final show of the night. I got to take home a free lingerie set, it's not my size but maybe I can give it to someone...Anyone a 36B/Medium? lol.

"Astory" for Pac Sun

What's up ya'll! Thought I'd fill you guys in on what I've been up to this week. The other night I shot an editorial spread for "Astory," a magazine that is produced for PacSun, showcasing some great pieces for their upcoming season's collections. We shot it in this cool beach house in Venice that was literally on the beach. I got to meet a lot of awesome people from State of Tomorrow, the company that is producing the spread. We started off our first "look" with a huge pillow fight in the loft space of the house. There were billions of feathers everywhere! At night, we got to run all over the beach and jump off lifeguard stands. It was so much fun! The magazine will be out in PacSun in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned! Check out these "behind the scenes" shots:

"Buzz" on The New Tough

Hello all! There has been a lot of "buzz" surrounding the first issue of "The New Tough", which I recently appeared in. Photographer and creator, Robin Black, has been kind enough to keep me up to speed with all of the different sites that have been blogging and tweeting about our story. Check out the links below:

I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night

...And party every day! Just received these photos from a test I did with photographer Karlos Matthews. He and I met a long time ago through a popular fashion networking site, but for some reason it took us forever to finally get together and shoot (due to our conflicting schedules). But, we finally got together do this "Rock and Roll" inspired shoot. Christina Guerra did the makeup/hair and Trieste Graham did wardrobe. I got to have this total rocker-chic look with super teased-out hair and black eyeliner. You would of thought I was the 5th member of Motley Crue, haha! The wardrobe was rockin' as well with distressed/studded jeans, leopard print, leather and lace. It was a really fun team to work with and the photos turned out beautiful!

Circa 1975

I recently shot this awesome 70's theme shoot in Hollywood with photographer Brian Higbee. This was our 2nd time shooting together and we had a blast! Lauren Goodman assisted with makeup/hair, Jaci Robinson with wardrobe and Megan Luke with lighting. It was great getting to shoot with Brian again because he is super laid back and just kind of lets you do your own thing as he captures it through the camera, not to mention he is extremely talented. Luckily there were some really cool locations within both Jaci's apartment building and in the outer apartment complexes that had a super 70's feel that complimented the styling. After the shoot, Jaci's boyfriend cooked up a delicious dinner for everyone followed by homemade cookies! It was fun getting to sit back and hang out with everyone. Hopefully, we'll all work together again soon. Above are some shots from the shoot.

Palm Desert

My spread for a new magazine called "The New Tough" is now out online! My look in this shoot was inspired by 70's sex icons like Jane Birkin, who was an English actress/model/singer, known for dating rock stars and sporting revealing outfits. Lately, more and more people have been telling me I resemble her. The story was shot in an old 70's style vacation house in Palm Desert. Robin Black photographed the story and also did the hair/makeup. She is also Editor in Chief of the magazine! Talk about multi-talented! Her boyfriend, Nick, and wardrobe stylist, Brett Bailey, also assisted on the shoot. Brett pulled some amazing pieces from designers such as YSL, Diane Von Furstenberg and Rodarte. The shoot was so laid back it was like being on a vacation with a bunch of your friends ... cookouts, swimming in the pool and lounging in the desert sun. This was definitely one of my favorite shoots I've done and if I could, I would go back and do it again ... and again, hehe. Check out the link below for the full story:

J'adore Joseph Tran

The other day, I had the privilege of shooting with one of my favorite people: Mr. Joseph Tran. He and I go pretty far back. We first shot together around last February, before I got signed to NEXT. He not only helped developed my book into something beautiful, but he has helped mold me into the model I have become. We talk almost everyday and I'm so fortunate to have met such a talented and caring friend. This was our 3rd time shooting together and we had a blast! We laughed, ate a giant box of granola bars, and finished the night with a late meal at Fridays! It was great! (The photo above is a sneak peak of what we shot, more photos to come!...)

Allow me to introduce myself...

My name is Kyla! I'm a model/entrepreneur of sorts living in Los Angeles. I was born in NYC and raised in South Florida. I love pug puppies, oatmeal raisin cookies and the Internet. I'm not just another "face" ... I recently graduated with my Bachelor's in Journalism and Marketing...with a 3.9 cumulative GPA, might I add! I signed with NEXT L.A. in May of '09 and have modeled for brands such as Vans, Forever21 and Pacific Sunwear, just to name a few. I decided to start this blog to not only keep my friends and family in "the loop" of what's going on with my career, but to also to give my readers a look into my life and what I do. So hopefully I don't bore you and you'll enjoy my entries and photos I'll be posting on a regular basis. I'm open to suggestions if you have any! Until then, sit back, relax, and ENJOY!
